Abstract

A research into the illumination of the Paris Codex «Chronicle of Guinea» (15th century), identified the famous man of the large hat, as being Infant Peter and not his brother, Henry the Navigator. This research made it possible to establish an interconnection between the St. Vincent Panels and the «Chronicle of Holy Infant Ferdinand who died in Fez» (15th century) and thus, 150 years after the discovery of the Panels, a global and coherent explanation was achieved for its meaning, identifying all the main characters represented there. Each Panel corresponds to a dated scene, of the martyrdom of the Holy Infant and of the captives who accompanied him, a story that had as main objective the glorification of this Infant.

Keywords: St. Vincent Panels; Holy Infant, Infant Peter, Henry the Navigator, Paris Codex.
